Golden Age at Breda's Museum, Breda, the Netherlands.
Golden Age: Highlights of Dutch Graphic Design (1890–1990) opened in Brno, Czech Republic, on Thursday 4 June. The travelling exhibition of classic posters and book covers will remain on view at the Moravian Gallery, the country's second-largest art museum, through 27 September. Heleen Saaf van der Beek of the Dutch Embassy in Prague officially opened the show, and Esther Cleven of the Graphic Design Museum delivered an introduction. In the Czech Republic, the exhibition is part of NethWorks.cz, a festival of Dutch contemporary culture.

Golden Age showcases highlights of 20th-century Dutch graphic design. These represent the peaks of the Art Nouveau, De Stijl, expressionist, Dutch constructivist and postwar rationalist movements. Visitors can drift back in time as they view posters by designers like Jan Toorop, Theo van Doesburg, Bart van der Leck, Piet Zwart, Paul Schuitema, Willem Sandberg, Dick Elffers, Jan Bons, Pieter Brattinga, Jan van Toorn and Wim Crouwel. Individually and collectively, their designs represent a unique, surprisingly coherent cultural tradition. Thanks to its originality and subtle complexity, much of this work continues to inspire graphic designers today.

After Brno, the exhibition will move to its final destination, Athens' Cycladic Museum, where it will be on view from 8 October through 8 November. Golden Age has been touring Europe since 2007 and has made stops in Bucharest, Sofia, Budapest, Madrid, the Dutch city of Breda, Istanbul, Ljubljana, and Warsaw. A programme of workshops, lectures and tours accompanies it in each city. Activities are aimed largely at graphic-design students and are meant to generate cross-cultural exchange.
