Premsela organised Created in Holland, its third 100% Design Tokyo group exhibition, with TuttoBene on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Agency for International Business and Cooperation (EVD). We also provided a business matchmaking scheme and a promotional campaign, brochure and website. TuttoBene managed the exhibition and matchmaking scheme. The organisation boasts long experience in producing exhibitions of work by innovative designers specialising in sustainable products.

The 13 participating designers had 100 square metres of space at their disposal, helping them to raise their profiles on the Japanese market. Participants paid for their own travel and lodging, space on the stand (about €300 per square metre), goods transport and any interpreting required. Registration was open to all designers, design firms and brands producing their own furniture and home accessories.

Premsela’s goals for Created in Holland were threefold. We aimed to increase the market for Dutch design, and exports to Asia in particular. We sought to position the Netherlands abroad as a crucible for unique, progressive design where talent flourishes and fascinating collaborations can develop. And finally, we hoped to encourage Japanese tourists and businesspeople to come to the Netherlands to experience Dutch culture.

100% Design Tokyo, founded in 2005, is Japan’s largest international commercial trade fair for contemporary design. In 2007, it drew 85,298 visitors. 100% Design Tokyo is part of Tokyo Designers Week, Japan’s biggest design event, which saw its 23rd edition in 2008. Each year, numerous Dutch exhibitions can be seen all over the city. Premsela believes it is important that all Dutch designers showing work are made visible to the public and press.
