Designer Christophe Coppens is creating his next collection of couture accessories – and you can watch. He's been working on the pieces for the past few weeks in his Brussels studio. Over the next two months, he’ll spend selected days finishing it inside an installation at Platform21.
The show,
No Reference
, opens on Friday 21 November and will merge a workshop with a museum-style presentation. Viewers will witness the final stage of a difficult process usually hidden from outsiders and see finished and unfinished pieces side by side. Those skilled with needle and thread can even help on days when the designer is present (for more information, contact
info@platform21.com ).
A 'finissage' will take place on 18 January, and a book will be published to mark the close of the process. Coppens will show the No Reference collection in Paris in January.
Coppens recently won the first €20,000 H+F Fashion Award, meant to help a designer to realise a special project. He’s using his winnings to fund this experimental period of work. During the project, Coppens will question his own work and attempt to abandon creative baggage and return to square one.
The H+F Fashion Award is given every two years to a promising designer working at the boundary of fashion and art. It is linked to H+F Fashion on the Edge, a fashion-collecting project of Han Nefkens and the Centraal Museum Utrecht.
