(Un)limited Dutch Design

Design in the Netherlands has developed rapidly, in large part because of the country’s open-minded, experimental design mentality. We will showcase this attitude at the DMY International Design Festival Berlin from 9 to 13 June 2010 with (Un)limited Dutch Design. This programme of activities organised by Premsela and Waag Society will show the possibilities offered by open technology and production design and give everyone a chance to share their creativity through open source methods.
Entries from the first (Un)limited Design Contest will be exhibited at the (Un)limited Design Expo. Visitors can enter the second (Un)limited Design Contest and participate in workshops at the (Un)limited Design Sessions.

(Un)limited Design Contest
The first (Un)limited Design Contest took place last year. In this open design experiment, entrants could submit original designs or modified versions of others’ entries. Visitors to DMY will be invited to enter this year’s contest using a temporary on-site Fab Lab. The contest themes are Form, Food, Fashion and Fusion.

(Un)limited Design Expo

A selection of (Un)limited Design Contest entries will be exhibited at DMY. New designs made by festival visitors on the spot will also be added to the exhibition. The (Un)limited Design Expo will act as the beating heart of the (Un)limited Design community.

(Un)limited Design Sessions

Daily lunch sessions will introduce visitors to the (Un)limited Design Contest and show them how to use the Fab Lab machines. Experts and participants will discuss the effects of open design at Friday’s (Un)limited Design Talk. At the concluding (Un)limited Design Book workshop, visitors can help to write a book to be presented at PICNIC’10 in September in Amsterdam.

(Un)limited Fab Lab

The temporary Fab Lab at DMY will be a fully functioning workshop where professionals and enthusiasts can use computer-driven production machines, including 3D milling machines and 2D laser cutters. You can make almost anything in a Fab Lab!

(Un)limited Design is a project of Premsela Dutch Platform for Design and Fashion, Waag Society and Creative Commons Nederland in collaboration with the Dutch Fab Labs. Special thanks to Etsy. (Un)limited Dutch Design is made possible by the Dutch Design Fashion Architecture programme.
