Duties
The Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has charged us with the following tasks: national and international promotion and representation of the Dutch design industry; information, reflection, debate and education; cataloguing, valuing, and providing access to industry heritage; consultation and coordination; and documentation and archiving. As we have no documentation centre or archive, we chiefly play a coordinating role in carrying out the last task.
Official evaluation
An independent visitation committee performed the first official evaluation of Premsela on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Culture in late 2010. The committee looked at our organisation’s overall quality and the way we implement our vision and mission. We received a ‘good’ rating, the highest possible. The committee cited ‘the development Premsela has undergone’ and its ‘distinctive view of the industry’. It applauded the way in which our programmes and projects reflect our mission and policy plan. The committee praised Premsela’s achievements and range of stakeholders and target groups, with particular reference to our programme advisory boards, made up of representatives from the design field.
The government will evaluate the Netherlands’ official industry institutes and cultural foundations every four years.
Governing Board
Premsela has a Governing Board, chaired by Johan Kleyn. We are evaluated by a visitation committee every four years. In addition, we submit an annual justification to the Ministry of Culture.
