Design, like architecture, football and music, is becoming an increasingly international practice. Innovation arises when different cultures, within the same country or otherwise, influence each other. Premsela seeks to increase awareness of Dutch design through encouraging an international orientation, strengthening the country’s design reputation, and encouraging the discussion of cultural identity. In planning our international projects, we consider the effects of globalisation on the design climate.

We provide information and advice about international cooperation and invite foreign visitors to the Netherlands to get acquainted with Dutch design and fashion. We also organize exhibitions and trade-fair presentations abroad, such as Golden Age and the Dutch participation in 100% Design Tokyo. We promote Dutch design with events like an international press meeting during Milan Design Week. We also conduct exploratory missions, seminars and research studies.

Premsela organises its international projects with Dutch partners including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its embassies and consulates, the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Agency for International Business and Cooperation, the Association of Dutch Designers, the Mondriaan Foundation, the Netherlands Architecture Institute, and the Service Centre for International Cultural Activities. Abroad, we work with partners including museums, academies and branches of the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions.
